Tony Reinke, Crossway: 2022
Technology is one of Reinke’s deep interests, as is theology. In this helpful book, Reinke provides the church with a Biblical Theology of Technology. Helpful, in a day and age in which technology is not only used, but often abused; Reinke makes the case for viewing technology and technological advancements as a good thing, something than shows the Imago Dei in each of us, but at the same time something that has always been meant to be used as a tool —as a means to an end. Reinke not only shows that technology comes from God, and that technological advancements have been made from the earlier chapters in Scripture, but also that technology will not be able to fill the deepest and truer longings of our Christ-shaped heart. Technology is good, but it’s not good enough, and will never be.
Reinke’s engagement with the topic is fresh and balanced. Maybe its most helpful characteristic, is that the book is filled with Scripture and deep theological reflection, and yet is laid out in an easy-to-read manner, following a simple outline that answers perhaps the most basic and important questions regarding technology. In a world in which technology is rapidly changing, and we often find ourselves surpassed and catching up with the newest theological trend, Reinke’s book will prove a tremendous aid for the body of Christ.
